Hi my name is Gioconda and now I can say I've been hiking in
the Andes. WOW! Talk about a special opportunity. It felt like you were in a
National Geographic magazine the whole time. First I took on Glacier Pastoruri
at 17,200 ft. We drove up drinking coca tea
which is the best ailment for altitude sickness. As I walked into this
wasteland, everything was gray, rocky and it was snowing. I didn’t think it was
THAT pretty but hey - it was the first glacier I’ve ever seen. They say due to
global warming, it’s supposed to disappear in 15-20 years.
The next day I hiked to Laguna 69, 15,092 ft. Hands down, the
most beautiful hike I’ve ever done. I used to love the hike to Hanging Lake in
Glenwood Springs, CO or to the Maroon Bells in Aspen, CO but Laguna 69 stumped that
HARDCORE. It was FREEZING and the laguna itself isn’t that pretty – just a body
of crystalline water, but the journey up is BREATH-TAKING. Basically my jaw was
dropped the whole way up.
