Sunday funday has a whole new meaning to me. It's the day Jeremy, David, and Steven (all 5 years old) come knocking slash POUNDING on my window to play futbol. Michelle, another volunteer a couple houses down, also plays with us! Our mother's are best friends so we're "primas" (cousins).
I love the sound of these boys laughing as they're walking down the street to invite me. I put on my sneakers before they get to my window because I'm so excited!
Let me paint the picture of the dynamic of these three little boys. Jeremy is "el jefe" (the boss). He is this little 5 year old with curly hair and big brown eyes that is the referee of the games. You'd never believe this little squirt can take charge of situations. He talks and everyone listens to him "NO SALI!" (It wasn't out!) "NO ERA GOAL!" (It wasn't a goal). He even kicked out a 12 year old kid for a "penalty...playing dirty" He is a very smart little boy, such a leader. David and Steven are his sidekicks - goofballs with a purpose. Steven likes to hold my hand.
GREATEST THING EVER: Even though I suck at soccer, all the kids pass the ball to me! It's not my skill level what-so-ever, it's just because I'm the famous "gringa" in town so I get celeb status. LITTLE THINGS!!!
I'll try to get a pic next time, but the game's are so intense there's never a second to spare. I start with two teammates then by the end of the game, all the other kids in the neighborhood have heard us playing and next thing I know there's ten other kids on my team. It's cute how soccer brings all the kids together. Hopefully I can work on a project in my service including soccer.
A small fact I've learned here in Peru...soccer > better than anything.
